The Osprey is a widespread raptorial bird found along the coasts of Australia, throughout Oceania, and on the islands of Indonesia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. Although not native to Vietnam, it is a migratory species sometimes seen hunting fish over lakes and rivers.

It feeds mainly on fish and has specialized traits for catching slippery prey: its outer toe is reversible, letting it grasp fish with two toes in front and two behind — a unique raptor adaptation. There are also occasional records of it taking terrestrial prey such as reptiles, insects, birds, and small mammals. Conservation status: Least Concern.
