This bird from the family Pycnonotidae is found from the Indian Subcontinent to Southeast Asia. The black-crested bulbul measures 18.5–19.5 cm in length. Its head is black with a distinct crest, while the upperparts are greenish yellow, the underparts bright yellow, and the tail greenish black. The bill and feet are black, and its pale yellow eyes give it a perpetually angry or surprised look.

It inhabits forests from lowlands to foothills and dense scrub, usually in pairs or small groups and rarely in large flocks. Its song is brief, fluid, and melodic, and it feeds on fruit and insects. Status: Least Concern (LC).
