This bird, belonging to the family Leiothrichidae, is endemic to Vietnam. It is medium-sized, with an average length of about 25–27 cm. Its distinguishing features include a yellow-brown back, an orange-yellow stripe above the eyes, a black throat, and black streaks on the chest against a yellow-orange background. Its habitats are typically evergreen broadleaf forests, forest edges, secondary forests, open-harvested forests.
It is a shy, sedentary bird that often lives in pairs or in flocks of 3 to 5 individuals. The diet and reproductive behavior of this species are poorly studied. The bird is listed on the IUCN Red List as Least Concern (LC).
