The bird belongs to the family Leiothrichidae and bears the scientific name Napothera danjoui. It is a medium-sized species, about 22–24 cm in length. Distinctive features include a long, curved grayish-yellow to yellow-green bill, a white throat, upper chest, and belly, and an auburn chest with yellow streaks and spots. The sides of the neck are also auburn, with some striping on the back. It has gray bills and pinkish-brown legs.

This species is endemic to Vietnam and is considered uncommon within its range. It typically inhabits the canopy of primary and secondary evergreen forests, especially in areas with abundant bamboo and rocky terrain. The species is currently listed as Near Threatened (NT) on the IUCN Red List.
